Ignacio Santillana del Barrio
Born in 1948. Graduated in Economical Sciences by the Central University of Barcelona, Doctorate in Economics by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and Master and Ph.D. in Economics by the University of Indiana.
In 1998 he joins Prisa Group as Chief Operating Officer (COO), being member of the Corporate and Business Committee. In Prisa he has been responsible for Operations, Organization, Resources and Technology, as well as Management Planning and Control and Financial Coordination, focusing his present activity in strategic areas. Previously he developed his career in USA as Executive Vice President and member of the Management Committee of GTE (now Verizon) and “Telefónica” where he worked 10 years as CFO Financial Director (CFO) and, CEO
Managing Director (CEO) of “Telefónica Internacional” and General Manager of “Telefónica”. Previously he was President of the National Innovation Enterprise (ENISA) and Economist AEB (Spanish Association of Private Banking).
He has combined his business career with his academic activity; he is currently Professor of International Economics at the Autonomous University of Madrid. He is also a member of the governing bodies of other Companies and Institutions, such as non-Executive Chairman of Nokia Spain and its Advisory Council in Spain and Member of the Board of Directors of “Banco Gallego”.
