The model implemented is “Desktop as a Service” (DaaS), which provides a comprehensive functionality map that will cover the different types of virtual desktop and the services associated with them. Access to the virtual workstation can be gained through any device for a monthly fee. Indra is working on this solution with NEC, and it will be responsible for professional consultancy services, operation, exploitation and hosting.

The project is in line with the proprietary Cloud Computing model that Indra launched in mid-2011 to provide on-demand services to its clients, within the framework of its strategy for advanced cloud delivery models, known as Flex-IT. Flex-IT is based on the premise that IT management requires a combination of both traditional and virtual models, integrated in private and/or public “clouds”. This delivery model, which is more advanced that the traditional one, represents a significant change in the way outsourcing services are provided, as it offers access in record time, regardless of location and paying only for what is used.

The DaaS Center enables personal desktops to go from being distributed on each workstation, to being centralized in a common, virtual and secure infrastructure. This reduces operating and maintenance costs, and represents a permanent technological upgrade with minimum investment. The solution can be adapted to different user profiles, since it allows the configuration of workstation elements and professional services. It is also compatible with the current infrastructures of each client, making it much easier to switch over to the Cloud Computing model.

In short, it provides all the advantages of centralization: unified management and control of desktops and applications, absolute data security and protection, increased speed in providing services to the end users, and increased availability of desktops.
