SAP ERP and TMS solutions at Hoteles Catalonia
Hoteles Catalonia is a leading company in the Spanish hotel sector with presence in the Caribbean and Europe. The hotel chain currently counts with 53 premises, out of which 45 are located in Spain, 1 in Brussels, and 7 in the Caribbean (3 in the Dominican Republic and 4 in Mexico).
The group will add 7 new projects in the next few years, three of them in Barcelona, two in Madrid and one hotel in Budapest.

A leading hotel chain in Barcelona, where it currently has more than 5,000 available rooms in its 24 hotels. With the opening of three new projects in the city of Ciudad Condal, Hoteles Catalonia will have more than 6,500 rooms, out of which 2,500 will be located in the historical and trade centers of the city.
Project focused on Modernization
The project goal was the evolution of the Hoteles Catalonia systems, aligning them with the growth, expansion and modernization strategy of the Group. One of the main objectives of the project was to implement an open technological platform that allows the modernization of the information systems.
The first step of the project entailed the implementation of the standard SAP ERP solution, that enabled an advance in the technology unification, removing departmental solutions and covering areas not taken into consideration by the previous systems. Next, the TMS forHOTELS solution was implemented to manage the hotel activities of the Group, allowing the unification of operations among hotels and the incorporation of better tools for the hotel marketing operations.
The implementation also implied the revision and homogenization of the processes related to the affected areas, ensuring high integration with the information systems as well as the automation of non-added-value tasks and the incorporation of controls.
The solution provides the system with the necessary resources for the online interaction with all the business channels and processes of the hotel chain, from the integration with our Web site, up to the Front-Desk, POS or head office.
The project was carried out in 13 months, during which the SAP ERP models that provide support to the integration of four pilot hotels in TMS forHOTELS were implemented. Subsequently, the remaining hotels were added to the hotel chain in Spain, Europe and the Caribbean.
The project, set into motion in November 2007, expanded throughout 2008 and 2009 with new SAP and TMS modules, such as TMS forCONNECTIVITY (integration with online portals) and TMS forWEB (B2C and B2B portals of the hotel chain) as well as with the integration of new hotel openings that Hoteles Catalonia have been performing since then.

The benefits that the implementation of SAP and TMS forHOTELS has implied in the organization have been essential for the hotel chain.
In the hotel business, technology is a strategic element used for making the difference within the market, and the project put Hoteles Catalonia in an unbeatable situation at the time of addressing the sector challenges and taking the maximum advantage of the existing opportunities.
As its main feature, we should highlight that the unification and simplification characteristics of the information systems, which makes its maintenance and exploitation easier, and removes the information synchronization processes between SAP and TMS forHOTELS environments and platforms, provide unique information repositories at all business levels, from BackOffice masters up to information related to hotels, such as customers, guests, agreements, pricing, bookings, room vacancy, etc.
Moreover, basic processes for the hotel chain operations have been fully simplified and integrated with the information systems. Said processes include global management of business policies, pricing changes, etc.
The project entailed improving management information quality and reliability, integrating in a single system the necessary data, automating report management and making key decision-making easier in our business.
