Indra leads the largest cyber situational awareness project for the defence of Europe

Indra, one of the leading global technology and consulting companies, is heading the largest cyber defence project in Europe, addressing the development of a national and European-wide platform for the real-time acquisition of cyber situational awareness in military operations, implementing capabilities for the visualization and detection of cyber threats, responding to them and providing support for decision-making during missions.

Indra is at the helm of the ECYSAP (European Platform for Cyber Situational Awareness) project, whose consortium is made up of partners from four countries (Spain, France, Italy and Estonia), bringing together leading organizations in the European cyber defence market from industry, the academic world and SMEs representing the sector.

ECYSAP is funded by the European Defence Industrial Development Program (EDIDP) and supported by the European Commission and the European Defence Agency (EDA) through the Ministries of Defence of the participating states.

This project seeks to strengthen Europe’s capabilities in the defence of cyberspace, which has been a field of operations recognized by NATO in recent years, as well as the sea, air, land and space.

The initiative constitutes a point of convergence for recent breakthroughs in cyber defence technologies, with emerging areas of knowledge and the use of innovative integrated research prototypes for the development of a cyber defence platform with automatic response capabilities.

The consortium led by Indra will design and implement analytical tools for the identification and assessment of risks associated with the technological sphere and estimate their propagation and their potential impact on the objectives of a mission.

The platform incorporates threat response capabilities based on the accurate identification, selection, planning and deployment of technological and mission-based actions, projecting their behavior over different time horizons.

Given its orientation towards supporting decision-making, ECYSAP incorporates advanced methods for the sharing of cyber threat information among multiple stakeholders, enhancing their individual and collective response capabilities through effective deployment of courses of action during the mission. Security as a design principle makes ECYSAP an inherently robust platform backed by resilient communications that reinforce its self-protection capabilities and the implementation of diverse auditable controls.

The validation activities will be carried out by means of use cases endorsed by the member states and conducted in real operating environments in which the cyber situational awareness capabilities are proven by the fulfillment of the missions.  ECYSAP is thus integrated into the defence-related lines of technological development driven by Indra and it will be reinforced through collaboration with other strategic command and control programs, as well as participation in calls such as PESCO and EDIDP.
