Description of the Project
Current secure tactical satellite waveform solutions are expensive, inefficient, and do not allow for interoperability between multiple vendors. The European Protected Waveform (EPW) is built on four cornerstones: efficient, secure, affordable and interoperable satellite communications. The EPW is license-based and can be flexibly tailored to the application, service, or platform, during non-conflict times or operations.
As such, the EPW is accessible by small, medium and large European nations seeking to embrace current and future challenges related to the demand for higher performance in satellite communications, decentralized operations, mobility and new security threats.
Through innovative disruptive technology sourced from key EU industry and university stakeholders, the EPW addresses the growing demand for European autonomy.
The project deliverable will be the EPW standard in the form of a Blue Book that will collect the lessons learned and conclusions from the demonstrations with the users that will be carried out in the project. To this end, a technological demonstrator will be built that will demonstrate the capabilities of EPW to users in simulated and emulated environments and with partial integration into a real operational environment. Some technologies necessary for its proper functioning and protection, such as anti-jamming antennas, will also be addressed. The demonstrator will include the EPW simulator, the satellite channel emulator, the ground terminal and a proof of concept of anti-jamming antenna technologies. The demo will assess resilience and cybersecurity functions at different levels of the system.
