Modernisation of geographical information

Date -Hour

Monday, 13 September, 2010

From September 13 to 17, Seville will host the XIV National Congress of Geographic Information Technologies (TIG). It is a technical and scientific gathering focused on geographic information (cartography, remote sensing, SIG, etc) and will coincide with the Semana Geográfica. Both events share the same slogan: “Geographical information for citizens: from global to local services”.

Indra will attend this initiative of the Grupo de Trabajo de TIG, which is part of the Association Spanish Geographers, AGE. The bi annual congress will not only focus on geography matters but will also deal with engineering, geodesy, topography or information technologies. Contributions from other sectors which use geography information technologies (biology, agronomy, architecture, urbanism, sociology or history) are becoming more frequent.

The event arises interest in various sectors since GIT are very useful for companies and the public administration. These tools are widely used in the planning and management areas (health, emergencies, education, transport, networks...) which guarantees participation of both sectors in the congress activities. Nowadays, integration of GIT in mobile devices (cell phones, browsers, etc) and in internet environments (Map services, Spatial Data Infrastructures-SDI) has boosted innovation and development of these technologies.

The XIV National Congress of Geographic Information Technologies aims to expand the multidisciplinary and innovative field. Based on this, one of the main objectives will be to show, discuss and promote the different ways in which GIT help extend and improve the services to citizens, companies and public administrations. The event will also address the main global challenges of the sector, without setting aside its significance, innovative nature and local actions.
