The Ibero-American Digital Communications Observatory will be celebrating World Telecommunication Day on 17 May at the headquarters of the Pontificia Universidad Católica in Santiago, Chile. Over 400 cutting-edge companies from the sector (public, private and academic) will be taking part. Delegates will be able to discuss, showcase and analyse the current state of the country from a technological viewpoint and future projects.

Titled ‘The role of telecommunications in disaster situations’ the 2010 edition will look at the use of new technologies in helping prevent or ease the effects of emergency situations such as the Chilean earthquake on 27 February which left a large number of casualties and widespread damage. As well as valuable lessons  learned from the country’s experience, international experts will discuss similar situations in other countries with highly-developed infrastructures and how telecommunications helped them regain normality.

As one of the event sponsors, Indra will have an information booth there detailing its extensive experience in the sector.
