  • The Smart Transformation Center project, developed with Iberdrola to identify and resolve problems in the low-voltage network in real time, and Onesait Prosumers Flexibility, Minsait’s solution to manage the provision of flexibility services to the electricity system and promote the development of renewable energies, have achieved success at the 8th enerTIC Awards
  • 30% reductions in the maintenance costs of transformation centers, 20% improvements in service quality ratios, 10% increases in the use of distributed renewable production and 10%-plus reductions in emissions are the initial benefits Minsait’s solutions can deliver

The STC (Smart Transformation Center) pilot developed by Minsait, an Indra company, as Iberdrola’s technological partner, and Onesait Prosumers Flexibility, Minsait’s solution to facilitate the smart and flexible management of distributed energy resources (DERs), have achieved success at the 8th enerTIC Awards in the “Smart IT Infrastructures” and “Smart product” categories.

The enerTIC Awards, organized for eight years by the enerTIC Platform, seek to identify, reward and disseminate success stories and innovative good practices that serve as models for progress and to raise awareness of the opportunities provided by digitization to improve energy efficiency and sustainability.

The two awards acknowledge Minsait’s contribution to the development of digital solutions to facilitate more efficient and flexible management of distribution networks and promote the penetration of renewable energy sources without jeopardizing the reliability and quality of the electrical system.

The Smart Transformation Center (CTI in its Spanish initials) is able to identify and resolve risk situations for the electricity supply in a matter of seconds, as a result of the combination of cloud technologies and real-time edge monitoring and operational capabilities. It constitutes the central element for more dynamic, secure and efficient operation of the low-voltage network so as to address the penetration of renewable generation, electric vehicle-charging infrastructures and new energy management models.

Among other benefits, it is estimated that this type of solution can facilitate reductions of up to 80% of the time to market in the implementation of new services to adapt to customers’ consumption and energy production requirements. Other forecasts point to 30% savings in the management and maintenance costs of the transformation center, 10% increases in the use of distributed renewable production and 20% improvements in the quality indexes of the low-voltage supply.

Furthermore, this new STC makes it possible to simplify the architecture of current transformation centers by integrating other digital devices such as the measurement concentrator or RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) into their structure.

Flexibility at the service of the environment

Onesait Prosumers Flexibility is Minsait’s management solution for distributed energy resources (DERs) that coordinates the flexibility services for the generation, demand and storage of energy in a comprehensive and streamlined manner, facilitating the modification of selective charging patterns by means of the use of smart algorithms.

This is a key solution for improving the stability of the electricity system, as it relies on innovative alternatives that are less expensive than traditional ones (generation with inefficient plants or investments to increase the capacity of the distribution network). It thus promotes the integration of greater renewable energy capacity, fewer emissions and lower energy prices.

According to the Flexibility Solutions for High-Renewable Energy Systems report (Acciona and BNEF, 2019), a “low flexibility” scenario entails a system with 11% more emissions, which is why Onesait Prosumers Flexibility is a key solution for converting technical flexibility into operational flexibility and contributing to an improvement in environmental sustainability.

The Technical Committee of the enerTIC Platform evaluated the 111 projects submitted and chose the winners in each of the categories, taking into account the following criteria: degree of applied innovation, usability of information and communication technologies, impact on the reduction of energy consumption and CO2 emissions, exemplary nature or applicability in other organizations/environments and use of metrics and improvement indicators.

enerTIC’s aim is to contribute to the development of the transformational potential of information and communication technologies in the field of energy efficiency in Spain with the support of associated companies and public institutions with the goal of a more competitive and sustainable economy.

Minsait is acknowledged by analysts such as Gartner and IDC as one of the main technological partners that can help companies overcome the challenges of the energy transition in global terms. Its solutions allow greater penetration of renewable sources, more flexible and efficient operation of electricity networks and the integration of the prosumer as the key player in the new energy model. It also has one of the most advanced technologies in the world for minimizing the impact of the Oil & Gas sector’s operations on the marine environment and reducing losses in transportation networks.
