Indra advocates digitalization and rail IOT to improve the competitiveness of the sector at Rail Live

Indra, one of the leading global technology and consulting companies, believes that the digitalization of the railroad sector and, more specifically, the advancement of Rail IoT are key to transforming the sector and improving its competitiveness, thus reinforcing the train’s central role in the transport ecosystem in achieving safer and more sustainable and efficient mobility.

This is what the company will present at Rail Live, the event which will bring together the world’s leaders and experts in the sector on December 1 and 2 (on this occasion in a remote format). In the presentation, Indra will use a virtual stand to showcase its extensive capabilities and experience in the sector.

In addition, at 10:15 am on December 2, Juan March, Indra’s director of Rail, Urban and Interurban Transport, will take part in the panel discussion titled: The Smart “New Deal”: how tech would support operators’ challenges, together with José Anguita, the company’s sales director for the transport market, and José Miguel Rubio, its director of rail transport for Europe. The executives will discuss how technology can contribute to promoting improvements in the efficiency, sustainability and safety of railroad operations and facilitate better use of the existing infrastructures, thus enabling them to increase their capacity. Likewise, they will explain the importance of the digitalization of railroad operations as a pillar of the transformation and integration of the entire mobility ecosystem.

In the lecture titled Rail IoT, the next Big Thing for the future of railways, Juan March will address the opportunities that can be provided by the development of a rail IoT network in moving towards more automated and safer and smarter management.

Indra has worked in this field with great success for a number of years, participating in European innovation projects such as SCOTT and X2RAIL-2, X2RAIL-3 and X2RAIL-4 within the Shitf2Rail program, the chief European innovation initiative for the rail sector, the highest governing body which it forms part of.

This commitment to innovation has enabled Indra to become one of the leading companies in the rail sector. The latest end-to-end technology solutions developed by Indra have positioned themselves at the forefront of the sector and have been or are being implemented in countries such as Australia, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, India and Malaysia, as well as Spain and many others.

This year Indra has been awarded important contracts to develop the traffic management systems for the new train control center in Ireland and the Estonian railroad network, as well as contracts with Adif to implement track equipment to assist ASFA-Digital driving, passenger service systems and, together with Alstom and San José, protection and safety systems in the Pajares bypass tunnels of the Madrid-Asturias high-speed rail line (LAV in its Spanish initials). In addition, through Prointec, its civil engineering subsidiary, it will take part in the design of Rail Baltica, the largest railway infrastructure project in Europe, which will link the Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) to the TEN-T (Trans-European Transport Network).

Indra has a unique track record in the transport industry with over 2,500 projects developed in more than 50 countries.
