On Wednesday, Indra Group Executive Chairman Ángel Escribano took part in the Business Roundtable that was held at Downing Street, the official residence of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. It was a business meeting at the highest level, which was opened by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, and the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, and was attended by a small number of Spanish and British companies, in the presence of Rachel Reeves, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Carlos Cuerpo, the Spain’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Enterprise.
Indra Group has operated in the United Kingdom for twenty years, a key market for the company, where it plans to employ over 1,000 people. The company has just announced the appointment of a business manager for the country. “The United Kingdom is a strategic country for us. We want to have a greater presence in defence and space. We’re currently a highly prominent partner in mobility, air traffic management and radar solutions”, declared Indra Group’s Executive Chairman.
The company manages the Silvertown Tunnel for Transport for London (TfL), a recently-opened infrastructure which is key to urban mobility. Its technology has been applied to twelve other tunnels in the capital for a number of years. It will also revamp the United Kingdom’s air surveillance network with next-generation radars, while the Ministry of Defence possesses simulators developed by Indra Group to train its pilots. Over the last two years, there have been three acquisitions in the United Kingdom to enhance the development of aerospace communications and air traffic management systems.
During his speech, Escribano took the opportunity to reiterate the company’s commitment to the United Kingdom and its interest in continuing to work in cooperation with its British partners. He also highlighted the leading role played by Indra Group in the Spanish defence sector and the company’s growth plans for Europe. “We live in a multifaceted reality that requires an integral vision and adaptation. At Indra Group we’re ready for the challenge; we want to mobilize and cooperate with the entire defence ecosystem to reinforce our industrialization and develop cutting-edge technologies that contribute to building the strategic autonomy required by Spain and Europe”.
In this regard, Indra Group has just obtained the largest financing to date in Spain from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to promote research and the development of dual technologies applied to the defence and space industry. “All of the technology we work on positions society and its challenges at the center of the design. At Indra Group we develop fully digital self-protection systems to improve the protection of our military aircraft and helicopters, we invest in space to ensure secure communications during critical operations, we apply AI to detect fires, halt wind turbines when protected birds pass by, combat disinformation, and so on. We develop technologies that overcome challenges and defend freedoms in Europe”.
