Indra, a leading global technological engineering company for the aerospace, defence and mobility sectors, has been awarded the Silver IRIS (International Railway Industry Standard) certificate by AENOR to the ISO/TS 22163:2017 standard for high-quality systems and management applied to the rail sector.

The company has held this certificate accrediting the highest quality and safety of its railway solutions since 2019, and it recently increased its performance level from Bronze to Silver, joining a select few of Spanish and global companies that have achieved this category. Fewer than 12% of the certified companies in the international rail equipment sector have an IRIS silver rating.

“To reach this new level, at Indra we’ve demonstrated that we comply with criteria additional to those essential to the standard, ones that are applicable to our management system and the operational processes for the development of our solutions. These advances will enable us to further improve the quality and safety of our rail products and services”, stated Ignacio Martinez, Indra’s Director of Mobility Operations.

One of the most highly-rated factors during the certificate renewal process was the customer satisfaction section, thanks to the high score that Indra’s customers award to the quality of the execution of its work and its rigorous compliance with delivery deadlines.

The IRIS silver certificate acknowledges the company’s commitment to continuous improvement and confirms that its rail solutions comply with the highest standards in the industry in terms of quality, reliability and safety.

Holding this internationally renowned certification, originally created at the initiative of UNIFE, the main association in the European rail industry, enhances Indra’s competitiveness in the field of mobility and reinforces its leadership in the sector, as it also contributes to increasing its efficiency and profitability, reducing its costs and improving customer satisfaction. The certification also opens up the door to new business opportunities, given that it is increasingly valued by and in demand among customers.

The IRIS certification structure is based on the ISO/TS 22163:2017 standard, including the requirements of ISO 9001, and organized according to standards that are similar to those used in the aerospace and automotive industries, adding rail specifications for project management, design, RAMS (Reliability Availability Maintenance and Safety), LCC (Life Cycle Cost), obsolescence management, supply chain management and the validation of special processes, among other factors.

Indra is one of the few Spanish companies which, in addition to the above-mentioned ISO 9001 certificate covering 50 group companies in 16 countries, has obtained the stringent specific certification for the aerospace, defence, security and IT sectors. It has recently renewed these quality certificates in accordance with the EN 9100/9110/9120 and PECAL 2110/2310 standards for 14 work centers, including the new one that is conducting the activities related to the NGWS/FCAS program.
