  • The company will demonstrate how its connected vehicle platform, artificial intelligence (AI), 5G communications, cybersecurity and augmented reality are transforming an increasingly digital industry

Indra will be one of the main exhibitors and speakers at the Global Mobility Call, the only international event on sustainable mobility, to be held in Madrid from October 24-26. The company will demonstrate how technology and the digitization of infrastructure and transportation systems are key to promoting smarter, connected and intermodal mobility in which the different means of transport integrate all their data to offer a more accessible, efficient, safe, attractive and environment-friendly service to citizens.

We can contribute a great deal to sustainable mobility by exploiting the full potential of the dual technologies that we have, including satellite solutions, cyber and advanced sensorics,” emphasized Indra CEO José Vicente de los Mozos.

Among other solutions, Indra will showcase In-Mova Traffic at the event. This is one of the latest innovations incorporated into its advanced traffic and infrastructure management platform and is equipped with artificial intelligence, a global model that’s already been implemented in countries such as the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Spain. This is a virtual crisis room to help prevent incidents and improve their management, and it is the outcome of an Indra intrapreneurship initiative.

After detecting a fire, accident or spill on a road or in a terminal infrastructure, Indra’s virtual crisis room automatically invites the appropriate heads of the control center, firefighters, ambulances, authorities, security and so on to participate to ensure real-time coordination of the incident management. It does so in a virtual environment that also permits the use of augmented reality glasses, thus contributing to greater realism. Furthermore, use of a digital twin of the infrastructure makes it possible to simulate incidents and train operators to deal with them in an optimal manner.

At the Global Mobility Call Indra will also display its cloud-based connected vehicle platform, which lays the foundations for the highways of the future, as it can be integrated into any control center, providing a layer of intelligence superior to traditional traffic management systems, offering connected and non-connected vehicles real-time information with unprecedented accuracy and guaranteeing maximum safety. The high integration and data processing capacity of sensors such as 3D LIDAR and connected cars, design-based cybersecurity and the use of artificial intelligence, Edge Computing and CV2X communications make it a unique platform in the market.

“To reinforce road safety in the face of the advent of connected and autonomous mobility, Indra’s working on new solutions based on 5G that can also be applied to wireless communications services that improve monitoring and increase the safety and capacity of rail networks through virtual coupling, as well as solutions that can improve the traveler experience. Cybersecurity is also key to this more connected and digitized mobility, one in which cyber-resilience will emerge as a critical component for addressing new challenges and threats,” explained Raul Ripio, managing director of Indra’s Mobility & Technology business division.

The Mobility 2030 project, led by Indra, strives to overcome the current technological limitations for the mass deployment of electric, connected and autonomous vehicles on the roads. Indra’s experts will explain how the IoT, artificial intelligence, deep learning and big data will make it possible to detect anomalous driving in autonomous vehicles, predict traffic by including the connected car as a sensor, pay tolls per occupant when car-pooling and plan intelligent routes for electric vehicles.

Urban mobility

One of the challenges currently facing cities is the implementation of Low Emission Zones (LEZs) to reduce pollution levels. In addition to reading license plates and controlling vehicle access, the proprietary solution showcased by Indra at the Global Mobility Call integrates a sensor capable of measuring the real emissions of each vehicle, beyond its environmental label, while its occupant detection system with artificial vision and deep learning can detect the number of people traveling in a car and calculate the emissions per passenger, facilitating fairer mobility policies.

During the event, Indra will also outline the progress of the first mobility platform as a service for the cities of Valencia, Valladolid, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Gijón, Logroño and Fuenlabrada. The new multi-city MaaS transport platform will put the entire range of public and private means of transportation and low-emission zones at their citizens’ fingertips via a single integrated app.

The platform of platforms concept will also be addressed by Indra’s In-Mova Space solution, which allows the integration and management of data from different services and modes of transport, providing intelligence for a global vision to guarantee a more efficient modal split and a simpler, more attractive and accessible kind of mobility for citizens.
