  • A pioneering technology platform which will bring all the logistic chain information together and ensure interoperability between the different national freight transport modes and nodes, as well as its integration at an international level, optimizing the efficiency and security of transactions
  • This advanced solution, which will be developed by Indra and its subsidiary, Minsait, will guarantee the traceability of the documentation and the cargo through blockchain technology, enabling all the agents and transport companies in the logistics chain to interact electronically by digitalising and integrating their data and documentation
  • With this strategic national logistics project, Indra contributes to positioning Spain at the forefront of Europe regarding the use of technology to improve the efficiency and sustainability of freight transport

State Ports, ADIF, and the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda have awarded the TJV formed by Indra and its subsidiary company, Minsait, the Mindtrade Platform and the SIMPLE project (SIMplification of Processes for a Logistic Enhancement). The project will involve the development and implementation of a single window system for Spanish logistics, integrating all the information of the freight transport activity and logistics in the country.

The new technological platform, which involves taking advantage of the experience of Indra’s existing single window system (Dueport) for the various transport modes and agents in the logistics chain, will ensure interoperability between the different agents involved in the transport of goods on a national scale, as well as its integration on an international scale, which will make it possible to optimize the supply chain, effectiveness, efficiency and security in transactions. The latter will be supported by an innovative blockchain (distributed registry) solution, through which part of the services offered by the platform will be operated.

The single window logistics system will guarantee traceability and enable users to track both the goods and the documents and information linked to their transport and the various modes used in real time. This will therefore contribute to the transparency and inviolability of transactions, regarding both the national and international flow of goods which enter, leave or pass through Spanish ports and/or those using road or rail land transport modes.

The new open, integrated and collaborative technological platform will enable the different modes of transport and agents that make up the logistics chain to interact electronically, exchange information in a digital way and manage the dataset and documentation contained in the different systems jointly, thus automating the flow of information. It will also facilitate the interconnection between the competent public authorities and the various agents in the private logistics sector. In addition, as the data is entered just once by the manager in each case, it will simplify and speed up the processes related to transport and logistics, ensuring that the highest level of confidentiality, security, integrity and availability of the information is respected.

The digitalisation and integration of information that this single window system for Spanish logistics offers will make it possible to use the data and all the information on the commercial and logistics activity to the fullest, which will also contribute to reducing stock, optimizing routes, improving processes and reducing costs.

It will also have a clear impact on achieving a more sustainable and environmentally friendly freight transport system, by contributing to the reduction of the use of paper and emissions.

A very technically and strategically complex project

With this strategic national logistics project, Indra contributes to positioning Spain at the forefront of Europe in the use of technology to improve the efficiency and sustainability of freight transport, as promoted by the European Commission in the framework of the Digital Transport & Logistics Forum (DTFL).

The development and implementation of the single window logistics system marks a major milestone in the application of blockchain technology to the logistics sector and is also a project involving great technical complexity given that it also integrates technology outside the blockchain.

In order to carry out the project successfully, Indra will bring together its international experience and unique capabilities in multi-modal transport, logistic integration platforms and foreign trade, as well as that of Minsait in development services, implementation and the maintenance of platforms based on blockchain (distributed registry) technologies.

The project will also be supported by the resources and capabilities of SIA, an Indra company specializing in cybersecurity, identity and digital signatures. Additionally, Indra will collaborate and test the new solution with important companies in the industry, stakeholders and universities, with the aim of creating an ecosystem that promotes the use of the platform.

Leader in Multi-modal Transport

The solution that Indra will develop for the State’s Ports, ADIF and the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda is based on a single window providing the logistics for its Mova Traffic solutions line, applied to the field of ports and logistics, which facilitates the comprehensive and optimal management of synchromodal freight transport. Mova Traffic enables improved operational processes and offers a higher quality, more efficient and sustainable service, as well as greater efficiency in the use of public and private resources, thus improving competitiveness.

The company has implemented its Single Window, Port Community System and Community System solutions in various countries such as Spain, Cyprus, Portugal, Morocco, Angola, Cape Verde and Chile, significantly improving their competitiveness. By way of example, the technology developed by Indra has made it possible to reduce the waiting times of cargo trucks which travel through Chile’s Valparaíso Port by 70%; it has improved its productivity by 17% and it has achieved an annual estimated saving in transport costs of USD 60 million.

Indra has a unique track record in the transport industry with over 2,500 projects developed in more than 50 countries. Indra Mova Solutions for transport cover the entire life-cycle of a project and combine the new digital, integration, specialization, and innovation capabilities that the market demands, providing reliability, business knowledge, and transport technology offered by Indra and the unique wealth of experience of its team of professionals.
