  • The solution will offer VoIP-encoded voice and data transmission over the commercial cellular network
  • Indra will deploy a main control center and 17 regional centers and it will provide terminals for patrol boats, auxiliary ships and vehicles
  • This is an innovative system that meets every operational communications requirement, while ensuring the utmost security

Indra is to provide the Spanish Customs and Special Taxes Department (Departamento de Aduanas e Impuestos Especiales Español) with a technologically advanced and comprehensive radio communications system. This system will help to coordinate measures against contraband, drug trafficking, money laundering and tax fraud. This contract with the public business entity Red.es is worth approximately 2.6 million euros.

The company will equip patrol boats, auxiliary ships and vehicles in the Spanish customs surveillance service with communications terminals. The system is complemented by a main control center in Madrid and 17 regional centers across Spain.

In terms of technology, this solution combines all the benefits of a conventional radio system (the user only needs to press the transmitter to start communicating) with the cellular network infrastructure, and the ability to send digitally-encoded data.

Consequently, secure communication is possible between members of any operation, and information exchange is a quick and simple process. Network users are provided individual and group VoIP services, individual and group instant messaging, videoconferencing, and video, image and file transmission. Highly secure encoding is always guaranteed.

This system also allows to view the location of each user. Based on this information, the control center is able to coordinate and monitor operations and quickly draw emergency response plans.

A major advantage of this system is cost reduction. No internal network is necessary, as IP networks are used. As for technology, it was necessary to overcome the fact that this system was developed to offer wide voice and data transmission capacity over very limited bandwidth, while ensuring encoded security.

This is a unique solution in today's market. Its successful development was based on Indra's ample experience in secure communications. Indra is a leading provider of networks for security forces and corps, institutions, government bodies and companies.
