The Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles, visits Indra's Specialized Defence Center in Vigo, which works on critical systems for Spain and Europe

Margarita Robles, the Minister of Defence, and Amparo Valcarce, the Secretary of State for Defence (SEDEF), visited Indra's Specialized Defence Center in Vigo today, a high-tech facility where work is being carried out on some of the most challenging and cutting-edge projects currently underway in Europe, ones of vital importance to guaranteeing the capabilities of the Spanish Armed Forces and other allied armies.

Indra Group CEO José Vicente de los Mozos presented the minister and the SEDEF the cutting-edge projects that are being undertaken at the facilities. 

De los Mozos highlighted that "this center employs a team of 70 highly specialized professionals that form part of the team of 1,600 workers employed by the company in Galicia, where we have eight work centers and operations in all of its provinces". In this regard, the company undertakes civil and military projects, contributing to the digital transformation of the Public Administrations and companies in all of the sectors in A Coruña, providing support for the Spanish Navy at the Center of Excellence in Logistics in Ferrol; conducting experimentation and flight tests at Rozas in Lugo; and working on cutting-edge technologies at its Centers in Santiago and Orense. In addition to the above, Indra has boosted the development of the Sparc microchip factory which is being set up in Vigo, after becoming one of its main shareholders.

During their visit to Indra's headquarters in Vigo, Robles and Valcarce acquired first-hand knowledge of the work this team is performing on important projects, including the development of the EU's Strategic Command and Control System, "a unique system in the world", in the words of De los Mozos, "that will facilitate the coordination of joint military missions involving multiple EU armies". 

They also saw how Indra's land and naval electronic defence system software is being developed and how work is being performed on advanced techniques for optimizing radars and electronic defence systems to guarantee maximum performance, which will be reflected in greater security and superiority in the field for our army. 

Moreover, the group's CEO showed them the work currently being carried out in Vigo on the development of the electronic attack system of the Eurofighter's new MK1 active electronic scanning radar, one of the most advanced systems in the world and key to it maintaining its superiority in the coming decades. They also learned how drone detection systems are evolving by means of images and radio frequency, essential devices for neutralizing attacks and intervening in modern conflicts.

De los Mozos also underscored "the close collaboration of this Specialized Defence Center with the University of Vigo, which provides knowledge and top-level professionals that Indra has added to its team", and went on to say that "we can thus offer our young people an attractive high-tech career, retain our talent and contribute to the structuring of the territory, aligning ourselves with the industrial corridors defined by the Ministry of Defence".

Indra started up the Specialized Defence Center in Vigo in 2022 and it has grown and acquired increasing relevance ever since, so much so that it is now a key player in the development of state-of-the-art systems.

Indra is currently working on the launch of a new Center of Excellence in Aerospace and Defence Technologies in Vigo. This month it has reached an agreement with the Vigo Free Trade Zone to move into Building 2 of the Vigo TIC Global Hub.

During the visit, the minister and the SEDEF were accompanied by Manuel Escalante, Indra's Chief Technology Officer, José Luis Albo, the Indra director in Galicia, and Ruth Escarda, the director of Indra's Center in Vigo.
